Sri Krishna Janmasthami
Janmashtami commemorates the divine appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna who is described as the Supreme Absolute Truth in the Vedic Scriptures and by the great Vaishnava Acharyas.
Now the question arises that what is the purpose behind the Lord’s appearance?
Lord Sri Krishna answers in the seventh verse of the fourth chapter of Srimad Bhagavad Gita as follows:
yadā yadā hi dharmasya
glānir bhavati bhārata
abhyutthānam adharmasya
tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham
Bhagavad Gita 4.7
Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion – at that time I descend Myself.
paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ
vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām
dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya
sambhavāmi yuge yuge
Bhagavad Gita 4.8
To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to re-establish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium.

Lord Sri Krishna in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 18 Verse 5 says –
“Acts of sacrifice, charity and penance are not to be given up but should be performed. Indeed, sacrifice, charity and penance purify even the great souls.”
Hence, one should never miss the opportunity to perform the prescribed sacrifices, charity and penance as these acts bring auspiciousness in life by attaining the grace of the Supreme Lord.
